The Institute:

The BIRLA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY was founded by Shri B.M. Birla and established in 1955. It is a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act of the Government of India in 1986. It is full member of the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Since its establishment the Institute has graduated more than 20,000 Undergraduate and over 2,500 Postgraduate and Ph.D Students with various specializations in engineering, Management, Pharmaceuticals Science, Computer, Architecture, Applied Science, Biomedical Instrumentations, Information Science, Remote Sensing, Biotechnology & Hotel Management.

The Institute has 780 acre entirely residential campus providing accommodation to over 3200 undergraduate and Postgraduate Students and about 550 members of faculty and staff. The massive structures also include research labs, lecture halls, workshop, playground, gymnasium and central library with over 1,00,000 books, Journals and electronic database.

The Institute has many first to its credit like establishment of Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry in the year 1964, Set up of a Small Industries Entrepreneurs' Park (STEP) in the early 70's establishment of an overseas center at Bahrain in year 2000, it is one of 11 Institute and University given Param Super computer from C-DAC, Pune.

The Institute also has collaboration with universities in USA, Europe, Canada and China. The Institute along with its extension centre has, at present, more than 12,000 Students enrolled for undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programme and more than 150 Students for Ph.D. programmes.
