Impressions
FICCI organised a two-day Higher
Education Summit titled "Higher Education
at the Crossroads: Imperatives for Policy &
Practice" on November 25 & 26, 2008 at
FICCI, Federation House, New Delhi. The Event
was supported by Ministry of Human Resource Development,
Government of India and Canada as the Partner
Country. The special features of the Summit were
Conference, Exhibition and B2Bs and Master Classes.
Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy
Chairman, Planning Commission delivered the Inaugural
Address and Dr David Johnston, President, University
of Waterloo, Canada and Prof. Malcolm Grant, President
& Provost, University College London, UK also
addressed the delegates at the Inaugural session.
More than 500 delegates participated in the Summit
which included more than 100 foreign delegates
from leading international Universities/Higher
Educational Institutions. A 65 member Canadian
delegation which included few Presidents of Universities
attended the summit.
- Apart from India, 17 other countries
had participated in the Conference, viz, Canada,
EU, US, UK, Australia, Belarus, Malaysia, Mauritius,
Bhutan, Malawi, Eritrea, Gabon, Zambia, Kenya,
New Zealand, Singapore and Rwanda
- There was active participation
from the corporate, academia, and government
bodies such as Planning Commission, National
Knowledge Commission, University Grants Commission,
National Assessment and Accreditation Council
and a few State Governments representatives
from Goa, Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh.
- Exhibition of leading national
& international Higher Education Institutions
was organized at the conference venue where
22 Universities and associated organisations
exhibited their products and services. More
than 1500 school children from different schools
from the NCR region visited the exhibition and
were counselled about new career prospects and
educational programmes.
- One-on-One meetings were organized
where about more than 150 Indian and Foreign
Universities participated
